Cumberland

initially formed as a township in 1800 as a major aspect of Russell County

It took its name from the Duke of Cumberland later (King Ernest Augustus I of Hanover). At the point when an upper-level Regional level of government was made in 1969 to supplant neighboring Carleton County, the township was expelled from Russell County and joined into the new Regional Municipality of Ottawa– Carleton.

The township contained the eastern segment of the rural Orléans region, and the groups of Cumberland (a town with an indistinguishable name from the township), Notre-Dame-des-Champs, Sarsfield, Vars, Carlsbad Springs and Navan.
